April in the Yard

It is a pleasure for me to walk through our yard right now! God is so good to give us such a temperate climate, so many lovely things spring up from the earth year after year. Lots of rain but, oh my, when the sun comes out . . .

As you drive up and park . . .

  1. Wow! Your yard belongs in Better Homes and Gardens! How lovely this time of year! Happy to see that on your side of the country the weather is acting like Spring! We had a few inches of snow Monday which killed off the few flowers that survived the last freeze here. So sad. Thank you for sharing your pictures....gives me hope for my garden next year!

  2. Gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing! The flowers in my neck of the woods are still sleeping...you know what they say about Maine...it's "life in the slow lane." We should be seeing those lovely colors within the next few weeks.

  3. What beautiful gardens. I love all of your pictures! I have a few plants that need deadheaded as well, but that is a tedious task I usually put off as long as possible. :)

  6. Thank you for all the kind comments. I should have put a disclaimer in that you are not seeing all the yard. We do have a bit of a wilderness in one area and there is much weeding yet to be done. It's work but after living in apartments for the first 17 years of my adult life, it's still a thrill to be able to work in the yard and have things GROW!!

in the background of the photo with Slipper, what is that interesting bush?
It looks a bit like Pierus..?

    1. Hi Hannah:

It is indeed a Pieris. I cannot remember the cultivar. We have a Mountain Fire cultivar in the front yard - I think this may be a Forest Flame but am not sure. They are beautiful shrubs.

      Thanks for asking.

  10. This area isn't known for Crepe Myrtles - they're beautiful in Washington DC. In this area they bloom really late but aren't as splendid as elsewhere. I had to try one though!!
